By examining their sitemap, you can identify best practices, potential gaps in your site’s structure, and opportunities to improve navigation and content hierarchy.
How to do it?
To do this, use tools like Screaming Frog and Ahrefs or simply inspect the XML sitemap of competitor websites. Look at how they structure categories, subcategories, and key pages, and compare it with your site to identify areas for optimization.
How to do it with chatGPT?
Analyze the sitemap of [Competitor’s Website URL sitemap].
Identify pages targeting specific topics or keywords.
Compare these to [Your Current selection of Keywords]
to spot gaps or untapped keyword opportunities.
Provide:
(1) key topics or keywords the competitor is targeting;
(2) content types they focus on (e.g., blog, product pages, FAQs);
(3) suggestions for new keywords or content we can create to compete or differentiate. Present the findings in an actionable summary.
How to do it with Screaming Frog?
- Open Screaming Frog and switch to 'List Mode' by selecting Mode > List.
